David Jacks, born in Scotland in 1822, came to the United States in 1841. He arrived in San Francisco, California in April 1849 and became a U.S. citizen that December. In 1851 he moved to Monterey, California and began a lifelong career in property acquisition and management. Jacks was involved in the development and growth of Monterey County and was active in the field of education. From the description of David Jacks papers, 1845-1905. (Unknown).
